My main area of focus is improving care of pregnant patients with diabetes and complications of diabetes in pregnancy. I have several recent retrospective studies comparing outcomes in women with diverse backgrounds that are treated for diabetes in our institution. For example, I recently completed retrospective work in diabetes distress scores and outcomes with diabetes in pregnancy. We also looked at basic numeracy assessment and outcomes in our clinic. We hope to expand this into future qualitative research on quality of life and social stressors in pregnant patients with diabetes. In addition, my fellow Erin Bailey and I have recently received assistance from Dexcom to complete a randomized trial of continuous glucose monitors in Type 2 diabetes during pregnancy. This will be a mixed methods study looking at clinical and qualitative outcomes and we hope to begin enrollment in the spring.
