My work focuses on gathering patient and family perspectives on the management of chronic conditions including diabetes and then developing or facilitating access to tools that can support their management. This includes my collaborative work with Dr. Elizabeth Cox’s research teams to develop and evaluate screening tools, tailored group interventions, and also our multi-university AHRQ-funded pharmacy- based tools to facilitate pharmacist-patient consultations to support management of chronic conditions including diabetes. Most recently, my graduate student Ejura Salihu is conducting qualitative research of whether and how adolescents’ and young adults’ stress associated with diabetes management might be addressed with a mindfulness app developed by the Healthy Minds Institute. I serve on Dr. Eva Vivian’s advisory committee for her ADA funded study “HOPE”. This study is analyzing an intervention to help vulnerable populations with diabetes improve their dietary habits.
