Translational Research in Diabetes Core

I am a translational scientist with an overarching goal to improve the health outcomes of people with diabetes. My expertise lies in bringing diverse stakeholders together to create partnerships that advance diabetes research. As PI on multiple diabetes-related trials and observational studies, I have engaged stakeholders to seamlessly connect research and healthcare to deliver personalized diabetes care. Currently, my efforts to engage diabetes investigators across campus has led to the creation of the Diabetes Research Accelerator for Wisconsin (DRAW), for which I am the PI. DRAW supports a registry of participants and a biobank of longitudinal samples from people with type 1 and type 2 diabetes for human diabetes research, as well as two translational research projects. I have extensive experience with electronic health record abstraction and with collecting, linking, and securing electronic survey data from patient participants. I bring these skills to the work of DRAW, providing crucial data often not available to basic science researchers, such as medication use and adherence or clinical outcomes over time. In my own studies to improve diabetes care, stakeholder engagement engenders crucial buy-in from healthcare system leadership and staff, research participants, and investigators from various scientific arenas.
