I focus on the development and application of ultra-high resolution mass spectrometry (MS)-based proteomics and metabolomics methods. As Director of Mass Spectrometry in Human Proteomics Program (HPP), I provide consultations to many investigators on campus and supervision to HPP staff to support various proteomics/metabolomics projects at UW-Madison. During the past few years, the HPP facility staff have completed five metabolomics projects using Fourier transform ion cyclotron resonance-MS for campus and industry users. In collaboration with several Wisconsin Diabetes Research Center investigators, we have established a high-throughput and highly reproducible ultra-high resolution MS-based metabolomics platform and applied it to islet, plasma and muscle biosamples related to diabetes and muscle metabolism.
