My research is focused on investigating the pathogenesis of aging-associated disorders of bone and cartilage and developing potential therapeutic solutions to these diseases. Specifically, I am interested in determining how skeletal stem cells are affected by diabetes, resulting in losing their capacity of maintaining bone and cartilage homeostasis. Recently, my group has published the paper “Bone Morphogenetic Protein-6 Attenuates Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus-associated Bone Loss” highlighting our research focus on diabetes complications in skeletal health. I have also served on a CMB student’s (Jon Odorico’s lab) thesis committee. Dr. Dawn Davis and I have collaborated on a pilot project and submitted a proposal to investigate if GATA6 mediates diabetes-associated bone loss.
