I am a clinical pediatric endocrinologist with a focus on youth with type 1 and type 2 diabetes. My research interests are to find novel and effective ways to improve health care delivery models for children with type 1 and type 2 diabetes. The focus of my current research involves applying quality improvement and qualitative research to pediatric type 1 and type 2 diabetes. I am interested in health care improvement focused on optimizing systems, implementing clinical best practices, and innovating novel approaches to the gaps in current health care for youth with diabetes. I plan to leverage my clinical knowledge and experience, specifically in pediatric diabetes, to help shape health care systems that provide comprehensive, equitable patient-centered care that meets the needs of individuals with chronic health problems. My academic training and research experience to date have provided me with an excellent background in diabetes outcomes research. As a resident in pediatrics at the University of Minnesota, I developed research experience with safety evaluation and education program implementation at an American Diabetes Association summer camp for children with type 1 diabetes. At the same time, I became involved in quality and safety improvement work within my institution through my role as chief resident. My fellowship research evaluated clinical outcomes in diabetes mental health care. My current work involves program improvement to bridge clinical guidelines and best practices into the clinical setting.
